Course Description
This course is an introduction to the science of reading and dyslexia therapy. The course is designed to enhance teaching abilities of those working with struggling readers and writers who require targeted or intensive intervention. Topics covered include oral language, phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, spelling, fluency, comprehension, history of the language, dyslexia, assessment, and components of effective instruction. Students will gain an understanding of the underlying pedagogy of multimodal reading instruction, hands on use of curricular materials, lesson design and implementation, student assessment, and instructional decision making.
